Lionel Messi's first goal in nine Champions League games against Chelsea gave Barcelona a vital away goal as they rode their luck to earn a draw in this last-16 tie at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea had subdued Messi and Willian had struck the woodwork twice in the first half before a fine low finish from the edge of the area made it third-time lucky for the Brazilian and gave Antonio Conte's side a deserved lead after 62 minutes.

Barcelona had barely threatened but a misplaced pass from Andreas Christensen gave Andres Iniesta the opportunity to allow Messi to end that 730-minute drought against Chelsea with a crisp left-foot drive 15 minutes from time.
It was cruel on Chelsea after an outstanding display - but gives Barca the advantage of an away goal for the return leg at the Nou Camp on Wednesday, 14 March.
The result at Stamford Bridge does mean that none of the English teams have lost in their last-16 first-leg ties so far. (Source BBC)

King Kohli hits 27-year peak in ODIs

Virat Kohli has received the highest ODI batting rating in 27 years, becoming the first Indian to move above 900 points under the ICC's historical system of rating players.
And he's also become just the second batsman in history to achieve a 900-point rating in both Test and ODI cricket at the same time.
Kohli scored 558 runs in the recent six-match ODI series against South Africa and was dismissed only three times, his tally including three centuries.

In the latest ICC rankings revealed on Tuesday, Kohli extended his lead at the top of the rankings to a sizeable 65 points from AB de Villiers.
His ODI rating of 909 is the highest of any player since Australia's Dean Jones in 1991 and the seventh-highest in history; only Sir Viv Richards (935 in 1985), Zaheer Abbas (931 in 1983), Greg Chappell (921 in 1981), David Gower (919 in 1983), Jones (918 in 1991) and Javed Miandad (910 in 1987) have received a higher rating.

Pakistan considering Malaysia over UAE as possible new 'home' for PSL and international matches

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi has stated his management is considering moving its ‘home’ base from the UAE to Malaysia in future for the Pakistan Super League and even international matches.
In an interview to Geo News programme ‘Score’, Sethi said he is finding it difficult to provide a long-term commitment to the UAE as the emirate is also a possible venue for the inaugural Afghanistan T20 league, along with other tournaments it already hosts. It must be remembered that earlier the PSL had to fight for space with the now-defunct Masters Champions League in 2016 in the UAE.
The chairman said he will travel to Malaysia in the first week of March to look at possible venues as it would cut PCB’s expenses “in half”.
“I am going to Malaysia to see their grounds. If the needed arrangements are agreed upon, having Malaysia as a home venue would cut our costs in half,” Sethi told Geo News.
Pakistan has already started the process of bringing international cricket back to the country. Pakistan is set to host the final of the upcoming Pakistan Super League in Karachi along with two playoffs in Lahore.

Europa League: Ă–stersund 0-3 Arsenal – as it happened

Arsene Wenger praised his Arsenal side for the way they overcame unfamiliar surroundings as they easily beat Swedish side Ostersunds FK to more or less guarantee their place in the last 16 of the Europa League.
The game was played in -4C temperatures on a 4G plastic pitch at the Jamtkraft Arena, but the visitors made light of alien conditions to win comfortably.
Left-back Nacho Monreal scored the Gunners' first from close range when Ostersund goalkeeper Aly Keita fumbled Alex Iwobi's strike.
Then the home side's centre-back Sotirios Papagiannopoulos diverted Henrikh Mkhitaryan's cross into his own net after the Armenian seized on a loose pass.
Ostersund improved after the break but any prospect of a revival was ended by Mesut Ozil, who made a well-timed run into the area and squeezed his shot past Keita for the third, before the hosts had a late penalty saved.
"I think we adapted quite well to the pitch," Wenger said after the game. "[Ostersund] were maybe a bit cautious at the start and we took advantage of it.
"I feel that at 2-0 at half-time, it was important for us not to concede a goal and win the second half.
"The risk at the start was that I didn't know how tough the pitch would be for our players. But overall we have no game over the weekend, so it was an easier decision.
"The only risk was the injuries. I'm happy we had no problems."
The Swedish club's English manager Graham Potter, who has led them to three promotions since 2010, could at least reflect on a bright performance from striker Saman Ghoddos.
The Iran international forced Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina into a couple of saves and led the line with pace and determination.
Arsenal host the second leg of the last-32 tie at Emirates Stadium next Thursday (20:05 GMT).

Cristiano Ronaldo double propels Real Madrid to comeback win over PSG

Unai Emery said that the preparation for this game started at the Camp Nou last season but he cannot have meant like this. It was not three goals in seven minutes and it is not decisive yet but Paris Saint-Germain did concede twice in that period to leave them facing another premature European exit. They still have the Parc des Princes and Zinedine Zidane warned that “anything can happen” in three weeks’ time, but after Adrien Rabiot and Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the first half, Marco Asensio came on to create late goals for Ronaldo and Marcelo, just when PSG appeared to be exercising some control. “They scored when we were at our best,” Emery said, which is why it is Madrid who are in control of the tie now.
Real Madrid suffered at times but they will not relinquish their European title without a fight. “This club has 12 Champions Leagues and there is a reason for that,” Zidane said. “We can be very happy with what we did against a very good team tonight.”

Ronaldo rediscovers La Liga form for Real Madrid in 5-2 win over Sociedad

Real Madrid cruised to a 5-2 win over Real Sociedad in a La Liga clash at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday night.
Cristiano Ronaldo led the goal-scoring with a hat-trick after Lucas Vasquez made the breakthrough inside the first minute while Toni Kroos curled one in from outside the area as well.

Dananjaya takes five as Sri Lanka clinch series

Sri Lanka 222 (Mendis 68, Roshen 56, Razzak 4-63, Taijul 4-83) and 226 (Roshen 70*, Taijul 4-76) beat Bangladesh 110 (Dananjaya 3-20, Lakmal 3-25) and 123 (Dananjaya 5-24, Herath 4-49) by 215 runs

Bangladesh plunged, Sri Lanka's spinners soared and the Mirpur Test tore to its conclusion midway through day three, the visitors triumphing by 215 runs. Debutant Akila Dananjaya was prime destroyer. He scythed rapidly through the Bangladesh lower-middle order, taking 5 for 24 to make it eight wickets on debut - the best performance by a Sri Lankan on debut. The charge to victory was also sweet for Rangana Herath, who claimed 4 for 49 and in doing so, became the most successful left-arm bowler in Test history.
After even Sri Lanka's lower order had batted with a little mettle, the rate of Bangladesh's demise in this Test will irk the hosts. Only four batsmen made it into double figures, and no one batted for longer than 51 deliveries. The pitch was as treacherous as ever, but chances were too freely given. Perhaps, chasing a highly improbable 339, and with little chance of saving the game, the futility of their situation contributed to their meekness. It took Sri Lanka fewer than 30 overs to clean the opposition up. This was Bangladesh's first series defeat at home since 2015 - the absence of Shakib Al Hasan keenly felt.
The selection of Dananjaya - out of all Sri Lanka's teams until seven months ago, and considered a limited-overs specialist in any case - has proved to be a spectacular move in this Test. Though he bowled only 15 overs in the game (fewer than either of the senior spinners), the overspin he puts on the ball made him a menacing prospect. Repeatedly he had balls leap up off a length, and one such ball struck Liton Das in the glove, and was caught at short leg. Sabbir Rahman was also caught off his glove; Mahmudullah edged another Dananjaya delivery that jumped at him; and Mehidy Hasan nicked a straighter delivery. Wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella helped Dananjaya along to his maiden five-wicket haul. He pulled off a fast stumping of Abdur Razzak when the batsman had merely overbalanced. Dananjaya's 8 for 44 comprise the best debut figures for a Sri Lanka bowler.

The city has been famous for producing finest quality sports goods and has been supplying footballs for mega events for a long time.
Forward Sports, which also makes footballs for the German Bundesliga, France Ligue 1 and the Champions League, was also the official football provider of 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
“This is an honour for us that we are going to provide footballs for the world cup once again. We are very excited to meet this challenge,” Khawaja Masood, the chairman of the company, told Anadolu Agency.
Khawaja said his firm produced a total of 700,000 footballs a month.
The football that will be used in the upcoming tournament is technically termed as thermo bonded, which was first introduced in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Thermo bonded balls are made by attaching the panels through heat – the latest technology adopted by Adidas and transferred to Forward Sports in 2013.
Before that, Pakistan had supplied hand stitched football for almost all the World Cups from the 1990s to 2010.
“Although Pakistan football team will not be participating in the forthcoming World Cup, its presence will be felt in all the matches [because of the balls],” said Khawaja.

Neymar to blame for inflated transfer fees - Barcelona vice-president

Neymar's behaviour during his switch to Paris St-Germain is the reason for football's inflated transfer fees, according to Barcelona's vice-president.

Jordi Mestre said the Brazil forward, 25, played "cat and mouse" with the club before his exit in August.
PSG paid 220m euros (£200m) for Neymar, making him the most expensive player in history.
"We would have saved a lot of money and a lot of media noise," said Mestre.
"What hurt me the most was the way it happened."
Neymar signed a new five-year deal at Barcelona in July 2016, which included a 8.5m euro renewal bonus.
Mestre said: "If he came to us and said, 'I want to go', we would have reached an agreement. What you can't do is rock the boat.
"He told us nothing. If he had done, PSG would have been able to buy him for less money and it would have cost us less to sign players too."
Neymar said at the time of his move that he had "followed his heart".
"The decision was difficult to take," he said. "I didn't come for the money. I came for the motivation and the challenge."

Gonzalo Higuain scored a hat-trick as Juventus thrashed Sassuolo to move top of Serie A

Juventus thrashed Sassuolo 7-0 at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with the win sending the home side to the top of Serie A if only for a matter of hours.
A Gonzalo Higuain hat-trick, two from Sami Khedira, and goals from Alex Sandro and Miralem Pjanic gave the home side a comfortable 7-0 victory on the day.
It was very much a game of attack against defence, and it didn't take the home side long to open the scoring. In the eighth minute, the Sassuolo defence failed to clear a corner and after a series of ricochet's the ball fell kindly to Sandro who finished expertly past Andrea Consigli in goal.

Espanyol 1-1 Barcelona: Gerard Pique earns point to preserve unbeaten record

Gerard Pique saved Barcelona’s unbeaten record with an 82nd minute header against Espanyol during a brutal derby on a waterlogged pitch in Cornella.
Barcelona rested Lionel Messi and nearly paid the price after Gerard Moreno nodded Espanyol ahead in the second half, before Pique’s intervention.
Philippe Coutinho curled an effort against the crossbar in the 22nd minute as Barcelona looked for the breakthrough, with Leo Baptistao heading narrowly over at the other end.
The forward set up Moreno to score right at the start of the second half but the goal was correctly disallowed as the ball had gone out of play before Baptistao crossed it.

However Moreno was on target in the 66th minute, heading home Sergio Garcia’s peach of a cross.
Barcelona failed to create many openings due to terrible playing conditions on the waterlogged pitch but Pique headed home in the 83rd minute to level.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan speak out as Arsenal hammer Everton

ARSENAL stars Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have spoken out after the Gunners hammered Everton.

Aaron Ramsey netted a hat-trick as the Toffees were brushed aside by Arsene Wenger's men.
Aubameyang marked his Gunners debut with a well-taken goal, which should have been ruled out for offside.
Meanwhile, fellow new arrival Mkhitaryan grabbed three assists as he made his Emirates bow.
The Gunners are still lagging behind in the race for the top four.
But the Arsenal duo who shone today are both happy with the win.
Aubameyang told BT Sport: "I am really happy, we won the game in the first-half, the second was a bit different, whole happy today."
Meanwhile, his former Borussia Dortmund team-mate said: "I am very happy, it was a well deserved win, we have to keep doing the same to win the next game and think about getting more points.
"We played very good attacking football, the second-half was a bit hard.
"I really like the way Arsenal play and hope to do my best."
Arsenal will be hoping to carry their good form into next week's north London debut.

India need 217 to win #U19CWC! Jonathan Merlo scores 76, his first U19 half century, but a lower order collapse means Australia don't complete their overs, losing their last four wickets for just 4 runs.

I just want to play my own football says Neymar

"This is only the beginning. It's not my objective to be the team's main player, the guy who gets the most assists or scores the most goals. I just want to play my own football, provide assists and score goals. That's why I came here". - Neymar
