Australia overcome England fightback to open their account in ODI series

Australia 197-7 (Head 96) beat
England 196 (Woakes 78) by three wickets
Fourth One-Day International in Adelaide

Pat Cummins' four for 24 followed by Travis Head's 96 runs knock inspired Australia to sidestep a brilliant fightback from England to secure a consolidatory three wicket win at Adelaide during the fourth One-Day International match on Friday.

Cummins and Josh Hazlewood (3-39) rattled the English top order with early wickets as the visitors were reduced to five wickets down for eight runs in the seventh over.
Eoin Morgan (33) and Moeen Ali (33) steadied the ship with a 53-run partnership stand for the sixth wicket before Cummins dismissed Morgan and Ali soon followed after being dismissed by Andrew Tye (3-33).
However, Chris Woakes (78) and Tom Curran (35) forged a much needed 60-run partnership stand for the ninth wicket as England somehow managed to inch closer to 200-run mark with the innings finally concluding for 196 runs in the 45th over.
Australia started confidently in their chase of 197 as David Warner (13) and Travis Head started cautiously. Woakes dismissed Warner caught behind in the 5th over as Cameron White (3) and skipper Steve Smith (4) folded cheaply.
Mitchell Marsh (32) and Marcus Stoinis (14) got off to good starts but both failed to carry on.
Travis Head, who was holding-on to the other end produced a crucial 44-run stand with Tim Paine (25 not out) for the sixth wicket before Adil Rashid (3-49) dismissed Head just four runs short of a well deserved 100.
Cummins' (3) was run out by Mark Wood and Curran as England saw a window of opportunity before Tye (3) and Paine ensured no further hiccups and sailed the Aussies across the winning line.
Cummins was awarded the man of the match award for his efforts with the ball as the series now moves on to Perth for the fifth and the final ODI of the series.
